OpenBSD Journal

Site News

Contributed by Dengue on from the word-on-the-street dept.

Ok, some of you might be aware that I moved my residence last week. This has caused the unavailability of certain domain names, specifically openbsdjournal.[org|com]. Name resolution for these domains will not be available until I resolve some other pressing matters associated with the move, such as sleeping in my dining room, getting shelving for the new server rack, etc.

In the interim, please use the deadly.org domain name to access OpenBSD Journal.

thanks,
jim

    Don't you colocate your server(s)?

I don't outsource DNS hosting for all of the domain names, it's too expensive. DNS service for deadly.org is outsourced, and www and mail service is on our dedicated server at nyi.net.

Just curious - what's your pageviews/mo and unique IPs/mo look like?

Why not run named on the co-lo box ?

Generally speaking, you're better off not running DNS and apache on the same box. Also, with DNS you're going to need more than one box anyway.

No shit!!! So why not have an additional named running on the apache box....When the first one goes down, you have a BACKUP, like DNS is supposed to work.... Your comment about named and apache not being proper on the same box is only for people with multiple boxes. They work just fine in real life, together.

I realize this isn't at all a priority, but some of us just really enjoy seeing pictures of people's racks. It'd be kinda cool to see deadly.org in living color. Any chance? Congrats on the move btw, I just moved myself, and I highly recommend the experience. It's good for what ails, you, cures you of any semblance of sanity you might have ever possessed.

      Rack porn....AHHH YEAH!!!

      Where smaller is better.

Sorry, couldn't resist. I will now return to living in my dark, radon fumed basement, despite having over 2,000 square feet of above ground living space available to me.

I love seeing a good rack in the morning
