Firewalling with PF book

In a post to the misc@ list, Peter Hansteen states he's finally recieved some copies of his new book. The publisher's site states copies are available this month (take that as you will).

The material is an expanded book form of Peter's excellent PF tutorial.

Congratulations on the publishing of your book Peter! I've added one to 'my cart,' how about you?

      Thanks! Yes, as far as I know it will be possible to order the book via both the North American and the European arm of OpenBSD.org.

      But there's always the horrors of transportation around the holidays to take into account.

      Yes, we have ordered a bunch of them and are waiting for the delivery. Unfortunately I don't expect them before Xmas. I might be able to bring some to the CCC Kongres but no promises

          Wel, in the spirit of Xmas, I'll be gentile.

          I am not very happy with the way the whole Jacek book deal went wrong. I feel cheated out of a load of money but more important I was not able to deliver a promise to a whole bunch of people. Needless to say, next time I'll visit Poland, there will be a shovel in the back of my car...

          Fortunately, Peters publisher contacted us and offered us a prompt delivery of the new PF book. :-)

            and in a message dated late yesterday evening San Francisco time, one of my friends at nostarch assure me that they shipped out international and US pre-orders "this afternoon". so now there's only the usual random factors to determine when you get yours :)

    Mine's on order from Amazon.ca since the undeadly.org posting of it, still waiting though; says won't ship until Jan. 16 to mid-February...? :-(

      That's odd.

      Then again it *could* mean that the first printing is sold out already :)
      I really need to check that.

        Amazon lies on ship dates. Get used to it.

        No, perhaps that's a bit strong. The printer ships books to the author via some fairly speedy method, such as UPS Sludge. The printer ships the books to the distributor by a somewhat slower method, generally on the backs of arthritic camels. At the distributor, the books are placed on a cart drawn by trained slugs and dragged to Amazon's ship point. (I've been assured that the slugs are both highly trained and receive massive doses of steroids, but it doesn't seem to help much.) The books are then shipped out to the customer.

        Makes you think twice about getting overnight shipping from amazon, doesn't it.? :-)

    Great Peter!

    You have shown the world you can write a technical book fully in open source and get a great result which was audited by a lot of people. Which results in a progressive way to make sure the quality is next to perfect.

    I'm willing to buy this book, but unfortunately the S&H is very expensive (bookpool) costing 2x the book's price. Does anyone know if the publisher will offer a pdf version ? it's not there, at least now... :(

      Where do you want it to be shipped to? Shipping within Europe is something like EUR 7 with regular mail A Prior

      I can do UPS Express as wel for EUR 50 ;-)

        Argentina, South America. Well, I've just found a much better rate from Amazon! (10u$ for S&H) and've just ordered one!
