Site News: User Accounts Enabled

Contributed by deanna on from the test - ignore dept.

Optional user accounts are now available on undeadly. These accounts allow registered users to hide their IP address, bypass the text verification boxes (captchas), and have the form fields populated with their user info. This is still a work in progress, so keep an eye on the registration page for changes. In order to avoid a lot of test posts in other articles, we welcome you to give it a try in this one.

It's nice that there's a way for the visually impaired to bypass the captchas now. Thanks Daniel!

Hehe yeah, I have to admit I have written wrong a lot of times on those verification codes. Always nice with logins and maybe keep the trolling to a minimum.

      Thanks Daniel:

Just as an aside : I use a proportional font and the captcha to register was unreadable. Everything worked after using a fixed font.

The spamd tool is marvelous for greylisting, but ... it will not stop real MTAs from submitting spam unless they reach spamtrap addresses. I get enough from having my e-mail address in mailing lists, thank you.

That's one of the reasons why greylisting introduces a delay, rather than immediately permitting a return connection: it gives other methods more chance to be able to identify problem messages before the message is retried (e.g. spamtraps, DNS blacklists, distributed bulk email databases, anti-virus updates).

Then take it out of your profile. Cause if it set a cookie to no fill in after a preview people would be bitching about that.

Wouldn't that be a bad idea for administrative email or sending a lost password? Or do those features not exist yet?

Thank you for proving my point. :)

Someplace it says that your password can't be recovered and if you have any reason to think you might get admin email you can put it back in.

Of course the *real* solution is to pay a little attention to what you are doing. :D
