Report on Business Television: Interview with Theo de Raadt

Contributed by mk/reverse on from the live-from-calgary dept.

OpenBSD project leader Theo de Raadt was interviewed by Howard Green live on The Business Show.

They talk about the motivation of making OpenBSD, who uses the software (big names like Cisco, HP etc.) and where the money for the project comes from and what it's used for. They also go into the discussion of giving the software away, the "bad" people working with security issues and their reasons for doing so.

The interview is available with all the commercials and otherwise uninteresting parts cut out. You can also stream the complete show.

Thanks for the reminder on donations.
Thankyou also for the continuing efforts in the (ever growing number of) Open* group of projects.

Did not see any mention of the OpenBSD website. Basically all it boils down to is they said this computer related "OpenBSD" project exists, and that some corporations/individuals use it.

Thanks Mr. Obvious that was a great essay on the topic.

Maybe it's some kind of safeguard against clueless people trying out OpenBSD, utterly failing, and complaining about it on the mailing lists:

"You have to be able to use Google to find the website before you may use OpenBSD"

If all people trying out OpenBSD were good Google-users, a lot less obvious questions would pop up on the mailing lists ;-)

Nice interview. :) It's humerous to see a guy that spends so much time in the code being questioned by someone that throws out some very basic questions. You can almost see the context shift happening inside of his head as he dummies down the responses.

Good to see Theo being able to take out some time from the busy schedule to get some information out there. I hope to see more companies donate to the project, like they really ought to be.

Live Theo! It's about what I'd have guessed: he's hot, in a quirky, thinks-too-fast for words kind of way. =)
