3.8 Hackers of the Lost RAID (song and artwork)

Contributed by dhartmei on from the dangerous-missions dept.

The 3.8 song and artwork are up. Welcome friends to the adventures of Puffiana Jones! In case you miss(ed) the 80s, some memories. Theo's announcement on misc@:

Many wonderful new things have made it into OpenBSD 3.8, but we wanted to focus on one particular thing -- our support for native free-software RAID management on at least one brand of RAID card, those made by AMI.

The song is entitled "Hackers of the Lost RAID". I hope people enjoy it. Both ogg and mp3 versions are available.

Don't forget to pre-order!

Unfortunately artwork for the T-shirt is still not available. I hope it will be printed in the back this time because I don't like those with too large pictures in the front.
Pictures of the CD and poster look pretty cool, so the T-shirt should be that way too :)

Totally agreed. I have *several* OpenBSD shirts and by far my favorites are the ones with the smaller art on the front. The only possible exception to this is my, "So long and thanks..." shirt which has resonably (IMHO) sized larger artwork on front but nothing that's overwhelmingly large.

If I were pressed I'd have to say my favorite OpenBSD T to date has to be the "World Class Security for much less...." With its smaller artwork on the front and good, funny stuff on the back, what more can ya ask fer? :-D

My favourite shirt is the navy blue secret service one (http://www.openbsd.org/images/tshirt-15.jpg). My current one is showing its age, so I will order a new one with the 3.8 CDs and another polo shirt.

"A secure operating system for a hostile internet"

      Great stuff!

What's with the Bush and Cheney fish near the bottom of the artwork on the lyrics page? Or am I just imagining things?

That plus the reference to ``the evil Neozis'' (cf. Neo-Cons), and it sounds like someone's still a little bitter. But really, who could blame them?

I'm thinking that it's not so subtle political commentary. Hardly shocking, since the individuals depicted have done about as much to endear themselves around the world as my cat has done to endear herself to the Audobon Society.

I suppose they're there in place of the Nazis from the film.

The new artwork is *awesome*. I was still a kid when the Indy Jones movies were coming out, and absolutely loved them (still do!) I will definitely be buying a tshirt and poster along with the release cd's of course. Great work guys!

Pity about the use of 's for plural SCSI and API.

What does that mean please? I don't get this quote/joke

Check the IMDB link above. Indy never did like things that slither, and was known to mutter, ``Snakes, why'd it have to be snakes?''

That, and of course, his trusty sidekick said: 'Aspics. Very dangerous. You go first." as they were about to enter the secret room where the Ark was. I cracked up when I saw (almost) the same sentence in the 3.8 artwork... :-)

Let's try Asps instead of Aspics. I don't think Indy ever felt threatened by gelatin.

That, and SCSI cables are known for being absolute bitches.

Ah yes, now I remember that in the film. But why SCSI, isn't it about RAID?

SCSI drives get used in RAID.

Speaking of funny, I *love* the "they are hacking in the wrong place!". Nothing could be more true when looking at vendor solutions :-)

Ooohhh, I guess I better hurry up and get my sound working then. I'm using 3.7 as a desktop and sound wasn't a priority at first but it is now! ;-)

The song for 3.6 is still the best!
