Contributed by mk/reverse on from the ++age dept.

Theo had his birthday in May, and the developers had chipped in to give him a nice present which he finally received (no, not the truck).

Beck had to bribe the previous owner to get the tags. With what we chipped in it better have cost Bob more than that.

There was a hold on it which although expired cost me 50 bucks to
remove or some stupid thing like that. I forget what all the various
extortions involved were for me to have the plate and get it delivered
to Edmonton without theo knowing about it ahead of time.

However, collecting "10 of whatever" I collected more than what
the plate cost - but do you dorks remember that we did get nadine a
nice present too.. (for all you barbarians trampling her flowers, messing
the house, taking theo away for a week and having strange people sleep on the porch). I think in the end I came out about 50 bucks down on the deal
          which was my contribution :)

          -Bob

Wow, is that a one-time fee? And are their yearly charges for the tabs?

Yes, that price is only for the plate/tab itself. The regular (~CAN$70) registration fee is due every year as well.

They are not called "vanity plates" for nothing.

I am not from Canada nor from the US therefor I don't know whether this license plate is an "official", valid one or just a fun/gag license? Thanks!

Yes, it can be official. In the US (and I think Canada) you're allowed to choose what is written on your plate.

In some States you can even have symbols. In California you can have hearts, stars plus sign etc...

You could do something like this

        I (heart) OBSD

        :-)

Yeah, that sounds like a California thing.

Just kidding. :-) I bet you'd get a little sick of the obnoxious stuff people would end up putting on their plates though.

do you really spend that much time reading people's plates? and really, if they want obnoxious, bumper stickers are a much more efficient way to go.

    4. By Jeremy Lemaire (65.95.241.18) on

Yup, it's an official one. If you have some extra bucks to spend, in some provinces like Ontario or Alberta you can choose whatever you want.

    Without Theo = 9
    With Theo = 10 :)

I disagree. Theo subtracts at least two points from the geek factor unless one has prior knowledge of what he does with his time.

I assume that is official, if so, now he has taken it in Alberta, CA and I had already registered it in Washington, US.

For all who do not know this, some US states such as Arizona don't require a front plate and you can buy novelty ones from the state motor vehicle department for about five dollars. Washington is not so fun-loving, and requires a legal front and back plate, however all personalized plate fees go to the department of wildlife.

I would think when I say "now he has taken it in Alberta, CA" it is assumed that I understand that he lives in Canada.

I had a nice pickup truck and put OPENBSD plates on it, then sold the truck. Now I drive what many call the ultimate driving machine and with my plate I think I have the "ultimate combo". :-) picture

Are you in Rochester? I go to school there, as a reverse lookup of my IP reveals. Small world I guess.
