/dev/random needs an upgrade

Contributed by grey on from the not enough entropy, be sure to check misc@ for more 4-1 fun dept.

We need donations to refill /dev/random.

It will soon become empty!

If OpenBSD is important to you this is the right time to step up and donate
some money. The goal is to have this ready before the hackathon so don't
wait!

Let me stress that the entropy source is the single most important
infrastructure device for OpenBSD. That's where good ideas come from!

ps. if you can't donate cash you could consider beer. It's another
high-quality stimulant to good ideas...

When's the next hackathon? I donated money through the site, but added the new shirt to the order forgetting that I wouldn't be charged for a while... Will they get the donation in time to beef up /dev/random for the hackathon?*

    *serious question :P

Strange. I thought that donations of beer would generate entropy somewhat more directly.

don't confuse "entropy" with "drunken proclamations of 'I love you, man!'"

I know this is off topic, but... Is or will there be a 3.7 song?

Forgot to say... Would also be cool to see some little videos, animation or such to go with the songs. Just a thought.

I actually offered some of my entropy on misc@ via the "server" below:

      $ sed -n \
        '/\/\*/,$ {s/.*Copyright.*/ * Copyright (c) 2005 Fabio Olive Leite <fabio.olive@gmail.com>/;p;}' \
        /usr/share/misc/license.template /dev/prandom | sudo nc -v -l 17

Those are actually licensed random bits, with a really free license. Too bad I can only offer prandom-quality bits, not srandom. I would only offer srandom-quality bits to the world if I could plug my four-year-old son into the entropy pool. Boy, THAT's a never ending entropy source!

I ran that all through april 1st, and some people DID connect, most surprisingly. :-)
