We carried the UPS outside on 2x4's because it was too hot to touch. It had been hot long enough that the room was too warm, actually that is why the failure was detected.
I had great concern, and honestly my wife did not understand my anxiety in the moment.
After removing the outer shell, disconnecting cables, and waiting for the unit to cool outside, I then had to use a crowbar to bend the chassis, because one of the batteries had swelled too much and would not slide out of the chassis. Of course I put new batteries in the next morning and continued use of it, because how else does software development continue?
For the record, these particular batteries were not old. This was the 3rd or 4th set in this UPS.

What, you didn't make her wear safety glasses and ask her about the proper first aid for acid burns?
If you _really_ wanted to induce paranoia, you could have her dig up proper first aid for lithium burns...
