move to 4.8-beta

There were as always lots of improvements since the 4.7 release, including work on ACPI suspend/resume and the new mandoc(1) (a more complete list can be found here). We need users to help test all parts of OpenBSD. Please report any critical bugs and problems you can find so we can release a fully functional and stable OpenBSD 4.8.

    The best sounds for me:
    1) GCC 4 - crucial for porting new platforms, also performance gains cause of better optimizations (if they will be used).
    2) LDAP in base - if it will leads to OpenBSD custom schemas for storing configurations and daemons states, the it'll be great... in combination with LDAP replication... valuable for failover setups.

4.8 tarballs for i386, amd64 and macppc have hit the mirrors

Is the ports tree locked yet? The newLISP developement environment finally got autoconf'ed enough to make a proper port, but missed the ports tree lock for 4.7 by a small window. I have to update the port to the latest release, but that is the work of five minutes. Is there still a possibility to get this into ports for 4.8? It has already been extensively tested on 32bit and 64bit, on amd, i386, ppc, vax, and aix.

submit it NOW. Once you think something is good enough, submit it. if you submit during lock, submit it again once lock has been released.
