The Book of PF - Reviewed by Dru Lavigne

Contributed by dwc on from the Dru-the-right-conclusion dept.

Dru Lavigne received a preview copy of Peter N.M. Hansteen's The Book of PF and wrote a brief review.

Dru sums up nicely:

All in all, this book is very readable and a must-have resource for anyone who deals with firewall configurations. If you've heard good things about PF and have been thinking of giving it a go, this book is definitely for you. Start at the beginning and before you know it you'll be through the book and quite the PF guru. Even if you're already a PF guru, this is still a good book to keep on the shelf to refer to in thorny situations or to lend to colleagues.

Does this cover HFSC in any detail? The documentation on it was pretty lacking the last time I checked and it would be nice to have some kind of reference on it.

Any new PF, OpenBSD or OpenBSD related book (especially with OpenBSD in the title) goes to my collection. As soon as this can be ordered, I'm buying it!

Has anyone yet purchased and received this book (other than reviewers)? I am hoping to have it in time for Xmas reading. I have my order in but would like to know if it is actually available now. Thanks.

The date I got was December 15th (with the last word from the printers that they'd deliver some time this week), but then there's always the risk of shipping delays etc that happen around these times.

The date I got from Amazon was December 15th as well. I vaguely remember a "will arrive before Christmas" policy but I don't know if that applies to everything ordered in a certain time period, shipped in a certain time period, or what. I'm pretty sure I got 2-day shipping, so if it's not here by Christmas I'll be a little concerned :).
