New Ports of the Week #28 (July 8)

Contributed by merdely on from the insert-dept-here dept.

This week brought us 5 new ports. That brings us to 4492. Going back though these stories, I notice that my total ports count does not always add up. I get this number from the last unzels message to ports@ and count up. It seems I can't count (or there's some other reason my count is wrong).

New Ports for July 8 to July 14:
audio/p5-POE-Component-Client-MPD, devel/libsigsegv, games/boswars, games/freedroidrpg, misc/gramps

Ports are listed in the order they were committed to the tree:

  • devel/libsigsegv
    • libsigsegv is a library for handling page faults in user mode. A page fault occurs when a program tries to access to a region of memory that is currently not available. Catching and handling a page fault is a useful technique for implementing:
      • pageable virtual memory,
      • memory-mapped access to persistent databases,
      • generational garbage collectors,
      • stack overflow handlers,
      • distributed shared memory
  • games/freedroidrpg
    • FreeDroidRPG is a free isometric RPG game inspired by elements of Diablo and Fallout. Originally based on FreeDroid Classic, this project now has vastly deviated from its parent.

This game tells the story of a world destroyed by a conflict between the bots and their human masters. Play as Tux in a quest to save the world from the murderous rebel bots who know no mercy... ... Or maybe just spend your time wandering around the land while the people are slaughtered. You get to choose which path you wish to follow, and freedom of choice is everywhere in the game.

FreeDroidRPG comes with an innovative system of magic, with features such as forced casting and over 20 spells. You can use over 50 different kinds of items and fight countless enemies on your way to your destiny. We have an advanced dialogue system, with it's aim to be at least on par with Fallout's. Our battle engine supports both ranged and close combat in real time. Finally, if guns are too inaccurate and blades too messy, you can always take over your enemies and have them fight on your side.
  • audio/p5-POE-Component-Client-MPD
    • POE::Component::Client::MPD is a perl module for developing MPD (Music Player Daemon) clients (or any other scripts that control the MPD server) based on the POE framework.
  • misc/gramps
    • GRAMPS is the Genealogical Research and Analysis Management Program System. In other words, it is a personal genealogy program letting you store, edit, and research genealogical data using the powers of your computer.
GRAMPS makes every effort to maintain compatibility with GEDCOM, the general standard of recording genealogical information. There are import and export filters that enable GRAMPS to read and write GEDCOM files.
  • games/boswars
    • Bos Wars is a futuristic real-time strategy game. It is possible to play against human opponents over LAN, internet, or against the computer. It aims to create a completely original and fun open source RTS game.

Thanks for your porting efforts and keep 'em coming!

Why are people modding Pierre down? He's absolutely correct. He's already updated emacs, he asked for testers in what SHOULD be the most obvious bloody place, and idiots ask on Undeadly anyways for something that's already been done. Mod me down all you want, but next time at least be intelligent enough to check the ports list.
