Get your Pluffy NOW!

Contributed by marco on from the pluffy-the-fish dept.

Pluffy is a hand made toy made in Germany by the well known Steiner factory. They are well known for their high quality toys.

Wilhelm Buehler was so kind to take it on as a project and after 5 different prototypes, we have finally come to a lifelike puffy toy. The only thing missing is a little hook to hang it from a wire but we'll add that in the next batch.

Wim would like some feedback on the first version, emails and complaints to the usual address.

This is a limited edition so order yours NOW!

You can order it for now only from the .eu ordering site at https://https.openbsd.org/cgi-bin/order.eu and for those in .ch, you can order it from msys in Basel

Maybe now that they've got the design down pat, they can ship them off to a factory in China for a third of the price.

We could do so. But they would look like clones and the minimum
charge would be 3000 pieces. Do you pay us the storehouse?

Please accept that, like the CDs, the Pluffy is a bit more expensive
since theres a donation tag included.

I wonder how you got permission from Theo. I wanted to made some keyrings some years ago and he said no.

Yeah, it would be a shame if they all looked the same as the other ones. I don't see how this would be any different than it is now. I can't imagine the people who sit at the Steiner factory sewing together stuffed toys all day long somehow imbue each one with unique characteristics.

and the minimum charge would be 3000 pieces. Do you pay us the storehouse?

That's a business decision you'd have to make, naturally. Does the cost savings more than cover the cost of renting a locker at one of those self-storage places until the quantity is low enough to store via your current means? And if it's not suitable or practical then I guess we end up where we are now.

Please accept that, like the CDs, the Pluffy is a bit more expensive since theres a donation tag included.

Of course. The point that was originally made is just that the current price seems a bit excessive for a stuffed animal. If the 55 Euro price includes a 30 or 40 Euro donation, then I think it would make sense to mention this as the current price does seem rather high otherwise.

Having said all that, well done with everything. If there's a good chunk going towards funding OpenBSD along with the price, I may just have to order myself one along with my 4.0 order though I'm tempted to wait for the next batch with the string attachment. But it's just really hard to resist the Puffster!

Actually if you look closely, you'll notice that there are little differences between each doll, due to the fact that they are hand made.

This is all very nice academic theory, but let me tell you as the person who has all this stuff in his livingroom, garage, bedrooms and even kitchen: I'm desperate to keep our stock down. Some of you might have noticed that I'm in the process of moving into a new house and let me tell you, our last count is a 12000 piece inventory and it's a nightmare to store, sort and catalogue. I'm not even mentioning putting it from racks into boxes and back into racks. Fortuatly we only move 1.2 km ;-), but it's taking over 3 weeks to do the whole move (move has to be done one week before we get the 4.0 CDs here in Europe mid next month).

Paying up front for 3k items, even at half price, is not in the finacial scope of our operation right now, unless you want to loan us over EUR 45k for the next 2 years until we have sold most of the dolls...

Don't forget that 21% of the EUR 55 is VAT. For those ordering outside of Europe, the price is only EUR 45. Some of that is production cost, some of it is development cost, some of it is driving to the factory to talk to the designers and pick up the items. The other half is for the project. If we do a new batch (looks like it), we'll try and lower the price.

Keep in mind that it's the OpenBSD project selling the dolls and not Steiner. We get all the profits.

I think a lot of people are forgetting that Wilhelm put up the money for getting this developed and produced out of his own pocket for the last 1.5 years. Now that is commitment!

They will ship to the US but it ships from Europe and there are costs involved with that.

We'll add United States and Canada to the webform, but it's a bit of work (add State) so it's on the todo list. It's a bit busy now ;-)

As for shipping cost, it's suprisingly cheap to ship as it's "only" 500 grams in a box, but shipping with regular mail is not really fast and reliable to the US. Should cost about EUR 9 to ship.

I'm sure all the boxes will be opened and probed for drugs and explosives....

Yes we can do it that way. I'll modify the orders if needed, just make sure that you include
all the needed data in the 3 lines of "address". Use country Belgium, I'll modify it to United States or Canada BUT MAKE SURE TO MENTION IT IN ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

It's the little squeeky HP tux, I'm a firm believer in the fact that it's the best possible use for Linux: firewall in the back of the car.

I'm a bad driver and always back into things, now at least it's sugarcoated by the fact that it leaves a pengiun-head shaped dent... "look how cute".

To be serious. The materials (in and outside) are tested and certified by
some EU norm for protecting children of any age (and grownups, too :>).

Sidenote: same applies to tux and the beastie (at least in .DE), since
they come from the same factory) and they use SECURE MATERIALS BY DEFAULT.

          Now buy one. ;-)

My Pluffy is already sitting (or swimming?) on my desk in the office.

If there will be ever a mini Pluffy available (like the small Tux, about four inches), I'll certainly buy it, too ;-)

We talked to Steiner already about something like that. Tho rather 2-3cm
              than 4 inches (keyring pluffy).
But this would have to be done in Asia - now is there 3000 people of
              your kind out there?
