Back up after weekend

Contributed by dhartmei on from the summertime dept.

We're finally back up after hardware and subsequent networking problems during the weekend. Thanks to everyone who sent in reports. Sorry for the inconvenience. Post a comment if you missed us (so we know how urgent a fix is next time), feel free to vent your frustration or tell us what you did over the weekend besides trying to load undeadly. ;)

First time I'd tried to access undeadly.org in about a month, but when I tried, it wasn't there. So, I missed it. Glad its back.

I had the awful feeling that we were going through another deadly.org-style shutdown. What is causing these crashes?

      Phew!

Exactly my thoughts, glad undeadly is back, well done guys!

I, too, thought it might be another sudden shutdown like deadly.org, and am relieved to see the site back up. I check the site everyday. Keep up the great work!

The machine it was on physically died late friday,

I quickly pulled another and hooked it up but a switch
settings issue prevented it from seeing the network. alas
I had other commitments this weekend and couldn't reset
      it remotely. Sorry guys.

But of course, Undeadly is on my list of sites to visit every morning and every night, just incase something cool happens.

  5. By Ian McWilliam (220.240.54.229) on

Whew!, I glad I didn't have to switch my homepage to slashdot. Couldn't have handled that one bit!

  6. By Paladdin (80.58.46.107) on

Oh, so the failure was on the other side of the wire... I've been all the weekend thinking how stupid are those transparent proxies my ADSL provider installed not so long ago :)

I can't say it's urgent, but I certainly tried connecting a half-dozen times or so...

I appreciate undeadly, and I'm glad you guys keep it running!

It's not my home page for nothing... good to see your back!

Undeadly is the centre of my unix universe. Glad to have ye back.

I strategically positioned one of those ducks that bobbs its head back and forth on my mouse so that it refreshed undeadly.org every two seconds. And then I waited. I had to attend a wedding but I realised that with Undeadly MIA my priorities had changed.

    Undeadly.......you complete me.

  13. By Jim O (207.41.234.70) on

Was checking several times over the weekend, anticipating the worst, e.g. deadly.org-like shutdown. notification via other channels (email to openbsd-misc or bsdnews.com) would have been appreciated.

Glad to see you're back up and running. BTW, keep up the good work.

I missed you! I think i tried the site prob 6 times or so during Saturday and Sunday. Glad it was just temporary and wasn't the death of the site. I still rembember the death of deadly.org

Well it was torrible. I wake up in the morning. It was i think 7 am. I run my firefox &... Undeadly is dead! Oh no! I go to wake up my mother. Byr she say that she don't understand what i ment. So i wake up father & he sayd "Don't worry sun, they will back". But I say no! Why ! Oh God WHY!!!! It didn't help :/ So i go out into the city & I try to ask people on the street Why undeadly.org don't work but they didn't answer me. Some of them even call me crazy or freak (i will fine them & terminate them, they will se...). After that I back & run firefox again &... Undeadly still isn't working (9 am). I drink voodka, so i wake up at night. & What i found was undeadly still don't work! Argh. You don't know how much voodka i drink into this moment! Guys! If You want me to live! Don't take it so long! Or I will drink too much!

    Hi,
I am very glad to see you back. The last days I was very nervous what was happend. (I remembered the switch from deadly to undeadly...).
At this way, thanks for your great work ! The visit of this site is a unalterable necessity for me on every day.

  18. By unixi (66.240.12.60) on

I was concerned... It's a part of the daily routine to check undeadly about twice a day.

I really missed my daily undeadly.org fix. Talk about a bad weekend without it, I was jozing so bad, I had to resort to /. but that just doesn't cut it for OpenBSD related stuff...

  22. By Devious (67.53.68.2) on

I follow the RSS feed in my bookmaarks. When it switched to ...loading... I was concerned. When it was not remedied this morning, I feared the worst. Glad to see you back, I need my OBSD fix several times a dsy...

Good thing your're back! Missed ya!

I tend to check undeadly.org every now and then, once or twice a day to see if anything has turned up. So yes, I missed you and wondered what was wrong. Would have yelled some I guess if it wasn't for various moving related stuff.

I check undeadly several times a day - a great source of OpenBSD news - glad to see it back (like other people I was worried it was going to disappear!)

    Keep up the good work.

  26. By Anonymous Coward (70.66.3.210) on

Well there was one positive about the outage. It made me rewrite the rss feed program. Other than that it was a terrible time, I was trying to picture what life would be like without undeadly. Don't do that to me again :(

My RSS aggregator was very sad through the weekend :)

  31. By Anonymous Coward (68.148.237.181) on

From reading the comments, I don't know why you worry about undeadly becoming deadly. Don't you believe the editors, when they said undeadly wasn't going the way of deadly? Anyway, I thought it was some required maintenance rather than deadly all over again.

To go without undeadly for a few days is bearable, but sorely missed if it's gone for good.

Seriously, though, for your beige-box remote reset needs, check out APC's MasterSwitch series (as long as you can secure it reasonably). Remote cold-booting rocks.

  38. By Justin (216.17.75.77) on

I was shocked when my cron folder in my mua starting filling up with errors about downloading the rss feed to update my home page, which happens once per hour. I was glad to see when I came home from work that the last error was 9:02am (CDT) so I immediately hit my home page and expected to see a "Sorry the site was down, we had such and such problems" on top, which of course is exactly how it happened.

    Hurray for hardware?

    Glad we have you back!
