OpenBSD Journal

Call for snapshot testing.

Contributed by Dengue on from the TEST!-TEST!-TEST! dept.

Nick Holland writes :
"OpenBSD 3.1 is working its way towards release. The quality of the release depends upon the quality of the testing.

So, TEST! Grab yourself a snapshot from your favorite mirror, and try it out! Test OpenBSD. Test packages. Send in dmesg's.

You didn't know there was going to be a test, did you?"

I downloaded the latest snapshot and found that the SCSI driver works. MRTG seems to run faster on the 3.1 snapshot than on 3.0. Great job to all involved, I'm ordering my CDs as soon as the web site lists them.

Perhaps I'm the only one who cares, but I must say that the 3.1 Blowfish is fugly. Incredibly fugly, in fact. Both 2.9 and 3.0 had excellent logos, but I don't think I'll ever appreciate 3.1's.

Other than that, I'm loving all the new snapshots -- although mpg123 still has the buffer problem it's suffered since OBSD 3.0 (if not before). ;)

Is XFree 3.3.6 supposed to work? It currently doesn't, and XFree 4.2 is about as bloated as Windows XP...
