OpenBSD 4.2 (AMSTERDAM) #1: Fri Nov 02 20:00:00 CEST 2007

Contributed by merdely on from the upgrade-all-nite-and-party-every-day dept.

Kevin Kadow writes about a local (Amsterdam) 4.2 release party:

A recent thread on Undeadly was the start of a plan to organize a small OpenBSD social event in Amsterdam (The Netherlands). It's nothing official, just a few OpenBSD users getting together.

More details below.

Leave a comment announcing your 4.2 release celebration.

The date is Friday November 2nd, a perfect date to celebrate the 4.2 release. Cafi "De Deugniet" is the location, it's a 5 minute walk from Amsterdam central station. The beer is good and there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance. We start at 8:00 PM.

Everybody is welcome without reservation and entrance is free. But send an email to Floor Terra (floort on gmail) if you plan to come, he'd like to know how many people to expect.

Friday November 2nd
Start: 8:00 PM
Cafi "De deugniet"
Oude Burgsteeg 12
1012 JP Amsterdam

See you November 2nd!

"de deugeniet", what a typical place for an openbsd users meeting :-p

I really want to be there, but I can't. I need to take the OV to Amsterdam, from Den Bosch. It's gonna be too late if I need to go back in the evening. Is there anyone coming from Den Bosch or Eindhoven? Maybe someone could pick me up (we'll share cost).

I am having the same problem as you are. I am located in Eindhoven. If somebody is driving from the south to Amsterdam, we could share the cost. This would be a nice opportunity to meet some more OpenBSD people.

I've just asked my parents, but they're occupied at that time. My sisses and brother aren't old enough to drive a car, and my older sis lives in Apeldoorn, so that's no go. I`ll keep you posted.

I'm passing Eindhoven on my way to Amsterdam the 2nd, so you two could hop on. Since i'm staying in Amsterdam for the weekend, i can't be of any help getting you guys home, sorry!

Actually, I can travel by train because I have a public transportation card for the weekend. The only problem is that it is stolen, so I hope I will have a new one delivered before the time comes.

Thanks, but that's the prob. I can get there, but I need transportation back to Den Bosch/Eindhoven. I am finding out if there is a way to get to it with the OV.

Way cool. If I had done what I wanted to five years ago, you'd be my neighbour (in some way) right now. I'd sit on Tonga (and yes, for sure using OpenBSD :)

We could also meet up a second time if people are around on Wednesday 7th of November, as me and Otto will be at the NLUUG 25 year event, check http://www.openbsd.org/events.html. We could meet after the event around 20h.

If you guys intend to have a meeting on Friday, make sure to post to it to misc@openbsd.org and mail me a blurb to put on events.html

Great, I am also attending the NLUUG25-conference, but I'm going there with a bus trip organised for students. I don't think I will be able to linger around after the event.

Sounds good, I hadn't heard of the NLUUG conference, but will consider attending.

This past Saturday, Floor Terra sent an announcement to misc@ regarding the event for Friday the 2nd. Can you use the blurb from http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=df8d3wf5_6g726zk for the events calendar?

Will you be selling OpenBSD CD's as well?
That would be an incentive for me to visit as well.

    Thanks

I will bring a few OpenBSD T-shirts and at least one CD set.

I can ship ahead a box of goodies if somebody can take care of them and bring me the leftovers on Wednesday the 7th after or at the NLUUG event.

Unfortunately I cannot attend this event, no way I can get there in time. I guess nobody has a place where I could sleep over in case I did make it?

If you make it, and bring the CD's you could crash at my place, in Amsterdam. I have a few pc's in that room so you would be able to have a good sleep (mail me otherwise at rgilaard and the yahoo domain)

IF i make it myself, you can prolly crash at my place, even WITHOUT bringing the CD's.. ;)

Nice, I'll be there too. I am using OpenBSD since 3.5 and looking forward to meet other users.

    See you there.
