Another port added to the repository: zaurus

Contributed by grey on from the grey would LOVE an sl-6000w, sl-6000L or sl-C3000 dept.

Thanks to Marco Peereboom for writing in to point out the following:

Dale imported Zaurus... See the first commit here.

/src/sys/arch/zaurus was added here. The informational page may be found here. And last, but not least, snapshots are now available here.

Cautionary words: Dale has let us know that this is still under active development, so please keep that in mind if you want to help. Currently there is no INSTALL.zaurus file with instructions, so at this point in time this port is best left to people who really know what they're doing. Naturally, these warnings will go away as this port gets fleshed out and matures.

    I don't think the display is supported, is it right? If I'm wrong, and the framebuffer is supported, do we have a X driver for it? Could someone please clarify? Also, what about suspend and other apm function, what's the status? This is a really nice pda btw.

      Why would you assert that?
      If you don't know you shouldn't just make things up as you go, use
      marcs or google to try to find out instead.

      The display is supported for console now, not sure about X (not yet most likely). It is still early days, and under very active development. Now, I just have to buy one...

    The SL-C3000 looks very nice indeed, and I can understand why people get exited about it. The price is 869.00 EUR, but it should not take too long for the price to drop.

        That's until it enters your country. At which point your country most likely will add some sort of tax. Germany (and probably the other European countries) adds import Tax (Einfuhrzoll) which is IIRC some few percent, and VAT (Mehrwertsteuer) which is the big part : 16%. And you end up with the same price stated above. Andreas

          I've (untill now) never paid any taxes on imported computers sent to me via this guy (EMS/TNT). Once however I did have to pay taxes on amazon books sent via UPS ..

      slim. the zaurus is usable as a general purpose computer if you need something that fits in your pocket. the linksys? not so much.

        Yes I can do this with Linux, but why not with OpenBSD? On another note, if I thought it was that important I'd either start hacking it myself or pay someone else to do. Besides my initial question I'm not going to go off on the OpenBSD developers on why they aren't supporting such and such whizbang hardware.

        Then again if you really like ARM this is the board to look at. Funny thing is you can get it relatively cheaply if you buy this system, it's the embedded controller in the disk-disk-tape system. I'm trying to figure out a way to get one of the developers kits for this board into the hands of OpenBSD developers, but I don't have US$1500 laying around at my fingertips, so I'm working on my employer.

    I really wonder if the SL-C3000 has a pcmcia-slot or not.
    The openbsd/zaurus-page gave me the impression it has, all other sites mention CF and SD-slot.
    PCMCIA would be nice to plug a umts-card in.. can someone clearify?

      Well, PCMCIA may stand for "People Can't Memorize Computer Industry Acronyms" and so, CF and SD may be part of the group PCMCIA :)

      Both the c3000 and c860 have an external CF slot which is electrically the same as a PCMCIA slot and can therefore be supported by the same drivers (with some extra glue for this architecture).
