MySQL now OpenSource under GPL

Contributed by Dengue on from the coulda-been-a-BSD-license dept.

MySQL AB has announced the re-licensing of MySQL under the GNU Public License (GPL), along with a partnership with VA Linux . I'm glad to see MySQL pursue an open-source license, even if it's not a BSD style license. As many of you know, (from the error messages sent to your browsers!) MySQL provides the db backend for this site, and many others, such as Slashdot.Org . MySQL AB has released past versions of MySQL under the GPL, but now all new releases (starting with 3.23.19), will fall under an OpenSource license.
