New Ports of the Week #14 (April 5)

Contributed by merdely on from the i-can't-think-of-a-department dept.

There are 10 new ports for the week of March 30 to April 5:

Several ports had updates that users should be aware of.

Ports are listed in the order they were committed to the tree:

  • games/neverball
    • Tilt the floor to roll a ball through an obstacle course before time runs out. Neverball is part puzzle game, part action game, and entirely a test of skill. Also found here is Neverputt, a hot-seat multiplayer miniature golf game using the physics and graphics of Neverball.
  • x11/xdesktopwaves
    • xdesktopwaves is a cellular automata setting the background of your X Window desktop under water. Windows and mouse are like ships on the sea. Each movement of these ends up in moving water waves. You can even have rain and/or storm stirring up the water.
  • net/axel
    • Axel does the same thing any other accelerator does: it opens more than one HTTP/FTP connection per download and each connection transfers its own, separate, part of the file.
  • net/py-adns
    • py-adns is a Python interface to the GNU adns asynchronous DNS resolver library.
  • graphics/jpegpixi
    • Jpegpixi is short for "JPEG pixel interpolator". The intent of the program is to interpolate pixels in JFIF images (commonly referred to as "JPEG images"). This is useful to correct images from a digital camera with CCD defects. For example, if one pixel is always bright green, this pixel can be interpolated away with jpegpixi.
  • textproc/py-lxml
    • lxml is a Pythonic, mature binding for the libxml2 and libxslt libraries. It provides safe and convenient access to these libraries using the ElementTree API. It extends the ElementTree API significantly to offer support for XPath, RelaxNG, XML Schema, XSLT, C14N and much more.
  • mail/imapsync
    • imapsync is a tool for facilitating incremental recursive IMAP transfers from one mailbox to another. It is useful for mailbox migration, and reduces the amount of data transferred by only copying messages that are not present on both servers. Read, unread, and deleted flags are preserved, and the process can be stopped and resumed. The original messages can optionally be deleted after a successful transfer.
  • graphics/inkscape
    • Inkscape is a vector graphics editor, with capabilities similar to Illustrator, CorelDraw, or Xara X, using the W3C standard Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) file format. It supports many advanced SVG features (markers, clones, alpha blending, etc.) and great care is taken in designing a streamlined interface. It is very easy to edit nodes, perform complex path operations, trace bitmaps and much more. We also aim to maintain a thriving user and developer community by using open, community-oriented development.
  • net/iftop
    • iftop does for network usage what top(1) does for CPU usage. It listens to network traffic on a named interface and displays a table of current bandwidth usage by pairs of hosts. Handy for answering the question "why is our ADSL link so slow?"
  • geo/p5-Geo-METAR
    • METAR reports are available on-line, thanks to the National Weather Service. Since reading the METAR format isn't easy for non-pilots, these reports are relatively useles to the common man who just wants a quick glace at the weather. This module tries to parse the METAR reports so the data can be used to create readable weather reports and/or process the data in applications.

should probably also mention that boehm-gc has been updated and depends on a -current binutils (relevant to inkscape at least).

Who needs beryl when we now have xdesktopwaves!

Is anyone porting 3D Slicer or ParaView?

3D Slicer seems to rely on mesa. Mesa is used when direct rendering is needed. Openbsd doesn't have 3D support. Dunno if this will prevent porting?

mesa works just fine in software render mode. won't be as fast as hardware render, of course. but hardware render is coming.....
