November 1st 2014, Calgary, AB, CA and elsewhere -

With reports coming in of pre-ordered CD sets arriving all over the world, the OpenBSD project today released OpenBSD 5.6, the project's 36th release on CD-ROM (37th downloadable).
The OpenBSD 5.6 release contains a number of important improvements, see the release page for an overview of changes, and the detailed changelog for more specific details.

This release also marks the transition to the new, Europe-based distributor, openbsdstore.com. The orders page still has a link to the old OpenBSD store, where they will be taking orders of remaining merchandise while stocks last.

Interestingly, AMD64 and i386 now have exactly the same number of packages, 8588. Is this a coincidence, or is it the result of some kind of harmonization effort?

It's a coincidence apparently, 8588 packages for both. But not the same packages.
