It's been just a bit over a month since pre-orders for 4.4 opened up and already the first sets have been spotted in the wild (OK, on my desk).
As is commonly known, those that order early, get the set before the actual release date. Keep that in mind for 4.5 and for now, if you haven't already, please place your order right away (International, Europe).
Remember, CD sales fund the continued development of OpenBSD and CD sets are the only place for those cool stickers!

Yes, Wim does a great job, my 4.4 set is on it's way across the English channel. Since 3.9 this has become a favorite tradition of mine. It's great to get 'three disks of freedom' and helping to fund development of my favorite OS. Even if you're running 4.4-current then getting them, or making a donation is a good way to say "thanks and keep up the good work". Thanks Wim, and the OpenBSD developers, fantastic job (again!) .

Me too, since around 3.8 I think. I try to buy each CD set and a t-shirt with each release. I had to secure another tower to hold the CD sets! :D
Can't wait for my new CD set (and t-shirt) to arrive. I wish the OpenBSD team would release the artwork as desktop wallpaper as well.

Bonus points for Wim for having sent the CDs that early.
Huge malus points to the belgian post for being late as usual and not have the CDs delivered yet.

Bonus is the term the French use in insurance for “no claims bonus” and malus for “surcharge”.

Indeed, the terms may not have been chosen wisely.

I was unfamiliar with "malus".
So I googled. Makes sense.
Bon (good) - bonny, 'bon chance', etcetera.
Mal (bad) - malady, 'mal de mare', etcetera.
Info provided for others.
Best wishes.

Hmmm what is your order number? I can't seem to remember any Uwe from
Brussels...
Shipping out the packages this year is bit slower than normal as I'm doing it on my own this release, normally I had family helping but they fell ill. And the girlfriend strategicly went abroad until the 16th, meaning I will spend the next 4 days doing all the envelope stuffing and stamp licking ;-)
By next week Tuesday everything should be shipped

Wow, I finally got them this afternoon. The look of the CDs is awesome and the T-shirt looks really great.
I really like the story and laughed more than once. It's so real life and analogies are very well done.
I am already compiling some 4.4 stuff on amd64,i386,sparc64 and macPPC. I can understand SGI and alpha are not on the CDs so I am waiting for the public release to install 4.4 on those systems.
Does someone know if 4.4 will run on SGI Octane? I have seen that some support for IP30 is in progress, but I don't know the status and haven't got time to test on mine.

How large are these T-shirts? I can never seem to pick the correct size when shopping. Either I get one that is way too small, looking like I'm on my way to the annual gay parade, or I get yet another tent for two.
I'm something like 185cm and 85kg. What size you do recon I should get?

XL probably. I take L with 174cm and 80kg and that does fit very well.

I'm 185cm and a couple of cases of beer over 85 kg, L is fine.
Besides, if you order anything online in Europe and you are not happy, you can have it returned and exchanged, for example for a different size. Consumer rights, remember? ;-)

I'm about like that and I always order mine a size M. I don't like that trend of oversizing clothes, and an M fits me just fine.
Installing 4.4 on the test machine as we speak. ;-)

This time I'm upgrading nice and early. I often let it sit too long... I'm hoping I can take the time to figure out the config file merge stuff that is in there (officially). This is really the only thing that makes we think "oh, not yet, it will take too many hours to sort that out."

Actually EU orders can be paid with Visa Electron, depends on your bank. I ordered my t-shift about a month ago with Electron :)

Yes, it kind of depends from country to country, the brand name Visa Electron applies to various products (some are credit cards, some are just debet cards). Also, the restrictions put on by Visa permit online transactions and in some countries they prohibit.
It even gets worse when you get to virtual credit card numbers, those you generate for one time use (with a limited time). Some work just great, some can't be accepted.
My suggestion is always: just try them, if it does not work, we can always use an IBAN wire transfer. We could even get rid of all the credit cards and replace them with IBAN wire transfers, if only some bank would not (illegally) charge transaction fees to the sender of the money

Exhibit A: Norwegian keyboard.
Exhibit B: the clock on the computer says "dag 11.10.2008" which means it's either Mandag (Monday), Tirsdag (Tuesday), Onsdag (Wednesday), Torsdag (Thursday), Fredag (Friday), Lørdag (Saturday), or Søndag (Sunday). Still have your doubts? Then let me present you ...
Exhibit C: he seems to be running KDE. You kind of HAVE to be from Bergen to want to use KDE.
I for one trust him. Case closed.

For the pedants; I know, this proves nothing. Anyone could get a copy of the local newspaper, anywhere. The conspiracy continues; where is Peter holding Puffy, and is Peter really who he claims to be?

No. Not anymore.
In Europe, we used to take a picture of each outgoing package but because the machine that did this died and due to time constraints, I stopped doing it for our shipments.
If your package is shipped with UPS, you do get an email with a tracking number.

I'm eager to try out two things: first, see if I can test it on VirtualBox; second, see if I can run all my Java web apps on it (JBoss etc). If I can do both of those I might switch my server over from Linux to OpenBSD.

I had real problems installing it on virtualbox, and although I now have it installed it doesn't seem stable enough to put in production. Attempts to rebuild the kernel fail in `make obj` which is quite worrying. Installing on qemu seems little better, the previous release worked without problem. Still I'm much happier running OpenBSD on real hardware.

Sorry, I should have said, failed to build the kernel, it also fails when building userland in `make obj`, which is quite worrying.
