SCSI enclosures needed for RAID management API development

Contributed by jcs on from the give-so-you-can-get dept.

Marco Peereboom needs SCSI enclosures and drives, per his post to misc@:

"Recently work has begun to create a RAID management API on OpenBSD. Work is underway to initially add support for the LSI megaraid controller series, a.k.a. ami(4). Even though the code is still heavily under development it is at a point that a bigger testbed is required to test with actual RAID configurations and to simulate failures.

What we need are SCSI enclosures with backplanes; preferably with drives and SES/SAFTE support. Some examples are:
* Dell PowerVault 220S
* IBM Netfinity EXP 300
* Sun StorEdge 3310
* Compaq StorageWorks 4212
"

Please contact Marco if you have hardware to donate.

    Is the idea to make something like raidctl for all hardware raid controllers, rather than *ctls for each of the controllers the way it is with wicontrol, ancontrol, iwicontrol, etc for wireless?

      I'm pretty sure ancontrol and iwicontrol disappeared along time ago, they have all been integrated into wicontrol.

        I am 100% sure they did not dissapear, and you could have been sure too just by checking the manpages on the website instead of posting nonsense here.

          Sorry, the binaries for ancontrol and iwicontrol don't exist on my OpenBSD 3.6 system, so I thought they had been removed.

        I would love them to disappear, but it has not happened yet

      Not yet. This might eventually happen but we are starting with a new generic tool called bioctl(8). Idea is that all RAID cards that we have docs for will eventually get support through the same tool. /marco
