OpenBSD Foundation Funding Goals Reached

Contributed by pitrh on from the banking on Puffy dept.

Bob Beck (beck@) writes in to tell us that the OpenBSD Foundation 2014 fundrasing campaign has reached its goals:

The OpenBSD Foundation is happy to report that the $150,000 goal of the 2014 fundraising campaign has been reached.

We wish to thank our contributors large and small. We will continue our fundraising efforts both in the current year and next year.

The success of this year's effort has allowed the Foundation to reverse the recent decline in the support we were able to offer the OpenBSD project. The Foundation has been able to assume responsibility for funding more aspects of the project infrastructure, such as the server electricity bill.

The Foundation is now able to support efforts underway to rebuild a significant part of the project server infrastructure. This included a few things that were, literally, rotting.

2014's slate of hackathons has been solidified, ensuring these critical events will continue to provide a stream of improvements to the OpenBSD and related projects.

We would like to especially thank the contributors who have made commitments for continuing donations to the Foundation. Every recurring regular donation allows us to budget and plan more effectively.

The Foundation will continue to strive to improve its financial resources, and hopes to be able to provide further support to the projects in the future. Please continue to contribute!

So we're out of the woods for now. Thanks to everybody who stepped up and contributed!

For the rest, the option to donate via the OpenBSD Foundation is still open. Or you could head over to the OpenBSD ordering page and buy a few items.

We aren't even half-way through the year yet. Why not try to double the size of the goal.

      Sounds like a good idea.

There was some chatter on misc@ about how much PayPal, et al, charge for the privilege of accepting money. I give $10/month, but I'm thinking of just writing a cheque for $120 each year.

Of course, PayPal makes it painless for me to remember to not forget to write a cheque.

I don't order CD sets anymore, because I don't want the clutter. I suppose I can TRY to remember to write a cheque for $60 every 6 months...

To avoid clutter, I simply throw out the old CD set or eBay it, that's what I do and I've been buying since 4.2 (with no clutter).

It's weird how you fall in love with some OS's, OpenBSD is my stable friend in life, everyone else by comparison have "Character".

My Windows OS is needed by my work, I know the .NET framework inside out.
Still I will always love the free OS/software movement. I have my analysis machine (OpenBSD) with 32 processors and 128GB Ram, it is no slouch.

Every penny counts , so help out the movement even if it's a couple of quid.

      Have a good summer folks.
      Regards
      Ade

IIRC, the advice for giving money to the project via CD sales without needing one is to give instructions to ship only the number you want. Saves the project postage, and you a trip to the garbage can!
