WTH: Humppa radio

Contributed by mk/reverse on from the video-killed-the-radio-star-but-humppa-strikes-back dept.

As some of you know, there is a radio station called SubEther (the link is the stream) at WhatTheHack.

If you didn't know already, you probably missed the best part of it: henning@ and mickey@ did a humppa show this afternoon. Fortunately, there is a recording of the show available (mp3, ca. 36MB).

404 on that link. Someone have a mirror set up? I don't hate my life enough yet, but an hour of humppa would certainly put me over the edge.

Can we get a set list? I've never heard humppa before -- this stuff is awesome. What were some of these songs?

From my minimal research, a fair number (most?) of the tracks appear to come from Elakelaiset's _In Humppa We Trust - Live_ (which is on the iTunes Music Store, of all things...)

It's not to my taste, but it is interesting. To my ear, it sound like Zydeco that's been put in a blender.

What the fuck are they doing at WhatTheHack?!

Oh my God, that humppa radio is so disturbing at so many levels that I cannot even describe of. :)

And for the record i'm from finland.

Having never heard Humppa before I wasn't completely sure what to expect. I can safely say that this stream exceeded all my expectations. My entire office is convinced that I'm insane (maybe the one-man humppa mosh pit was too much?). I'm certain that humppa won't find its way into my regular listening repetoire. I think it'll be relegated to the same space my collection of midget porn has: purely for shock value.

I just have to say I died laughing while listening to both Humppa and our OpenBSD DJs. It's nice to see/hear a more personal side to these guys. Keep up the great work!

Yeah, who knew that Humppa was available in native 64bit as well as 32bit versions? I'm still waiting for someone to post pictures from the Humppa party and bikini contenst.

Amazing! I already had a directory called "bizarre" in my music collection, but this introduces a whole new level of strangeness so I just had to create a subdirectory called "advanced" in there. So now I eagerly listen to "/media/musik/bizarre/advanced/wth-radio-humppa.mp3" in search of software development enlightenment.

I already feel the effects. After the first song (?) an otherwise idle xterm suddenly echoed "You feel more confident in your C skills.". I found it strange, but nevertheless opened up a C source file on vi, and as I moved the cursor around the status line would spew out things like "You sense a buffer overflow trap." or "The typo hits! The typo bites! Your code is somehow unaffected by its poison.". Upon exiting vi its last lines were "You never genocided any pointers. Your structs were fervently aligned."

I can hardly wait for another Humppa scroll. Ehh... file.

OK, I consider my horizons expanded. Now someone needs to make a regular humppa podcast for those of us in the rest of the world to enjoy finer Finnish exports.

an anonymous openbsd user is actually dancing to hummppa music. well, one or two gulden draak surely helped to relax the muscles for this complicated finnish dance that much resembles the scottish highland fringe (were you have to exchange the gulden draak by some highland malt).

Hmm, I've read somewhere you can dance on humppa. Anyone know how?

(Mail me or something like that if you have the steps.)
